If your business is already an Sun Financial member, opening a new account’s easy. Head into an advice centre and we’ll have you set up in minutes. Depending on how your business membership was set up you may need to bring some of your business partners with you.

If you’re brand new to Sun Financial, step one is to drop by one of our advice centres. Step two is to bring all the necessary documents with you. What you need will depend on your business type. Here are the details:

Sole proprietor

• Government-issued photo ID
• Your social insurance number
• Civic/legal address and mailing address, if they’re different
• A current corporate registry profile search

Partnership

• Government-issued ID for all signors
• All owners’ social insurance numbers
• Each owner’s civic/legal address and mailing address, if they’re different
• A current corporate registry profile search
• Your partnership agreement

Corporation

• Government-issued ID for all signors
• Owners’ addresses, including a legal address if it’s a PO Box
• Names and civic addresses of the controlling shareholders
• Names of the directors and officers of the corporation
• A current corporate registry profile search

You’ll be charged a fee for every transaction over your monthly limit. Here’s a breakdown of those fees:

• $1 for INTERAC e-Transfer^† transactions (with the exception of the Business Select Chequing account)
• $2 for withdrawals at ATMs in Canada that don’t display the ding free® symbol
• $5 for ATM withdrawals outside Canada
• $1.25 for staff-assisted bill payments

Your business chequing account probably gets pretty busy at times, and it can be easy to forget about an upcoming payment. By attaching a line of credit to your business chequing account, you protect yourself from charges and fees if you become overdrawn. With a line of credit, you don’t need to worry. It works just like a loan, except you only use it when you need it and interest will only be charged on the portion of the line of credit you use.

One of the great things about credit unions is that we often work together to deliver better service to our members. Ding free is one great example of this. A bunch of credit unions across Canada signed their ATMs onto the ding free network so the members of all participating credit unions can access those machines without any surcharges. There are about 1,800 ATMs in the network – that’s more than most banks!

If you make out-of-country purchases, you may need to send money internationally.
If your business sends money out of the country on a regular basis, you can take control of your transfers and send money online. You’ll need to come into an advice centre and set up your account, but once that’s done you’ll have complete control over your transfers.

If international wire transfers aren’t part of your regular business operations, a traditional wire transfer’s probably your best option. You’ll need to come into an advice centre  each time you send a transfer and that’s why it’s not a great fit for frequent users.

To send international wire transfers, you’ll need:

• The recipient’s name
• Their address
• The name and address of their bank
• The applicable route and transit number
• The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) code

Drafts (also known as official orders, certified cheques, bank drafts, cashier’s cheques, money orders or Manager’s Trust cheques) are a secure form of payment and may be useful if you’re purchasing a vehicle or other high-ticket item. Drafts are available for purchase at any of our locations across the province. They’re available in any dollar amount and either Canadian or US currency.
